Byron Cotter
Byron Cotter is the retired Director of Alternative Sentencing for the Defender Association of Philadelphia, an organization that provides high-quality, client-centered legal representation, connection to social services, and reentry support to adults and juveniles in Philadelphia. From 1985 until his retirement, Byron worked to promote alternative sentencing programs, reduce prison overcrowding, ensure that detainer hearings were heard in a timely manner and effectuate the release of clients if they were not.
Byron has worked with the City of Philadelphia, District Attorney, and Judiciary, serving on Mayor Ed Rendell’s Committee to Reduce the Prison Population, Mayor John Street’s Transition Team Consultant for Prison Overcrowding Mayor, and Michael Nutter’s Transition Team Prison Reform Subcommittee.
Byron loves dogs and enjoys spending time with his family both here in Philadelphia and London.
